SONNY ROLLILNS, JAZZ GALLERY, NYC, 1966 - New York was a great jazz city in those days. There were still smallish clubs like Birdland, the Jazz Gallery and the Five Spot, which were cheap and intimate. Just out of high school, my friends and I fell in love with jazz. I saw Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Benny Webster, Roland Kirk, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, and many more artists in the space of three years.
